UofL Sustainability Council:

The UofL Sustainability Council was established in 2008 with the mission to provide oversight and direction, to coordinate activities and recommend policies in meeting university sustainability goals. The Council consists of appointed students, staff and faculty and operates through three subcommittees: Education and Research, Operations, and Administration and Finance. It is a member of the National Council for Science and the Environment (NCSE), Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), the American University Presidents' Climate Commitment (ACUPCC), the Association of University Leaders for a Sustainable Future (ULSF), the Worker Rights Consortium and with it the Designated Suppliers Program, the Fair Labor Association, the US Green Buildings Council and the Partnership for a Green City.

On January 24, 2011, the University of Louisville received its first rating of the STARS SILVER. The STARS (Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System) framework, developed by AASHE is the system by which the University of Louisville, and most other institutions of higher education, measure progress toward sustainability. In the fall of 2011, the University received the top rating among Kentucky schools and a ranking of 41 out of 118 institutions in the Sierra Club's "Cool Schools" rankings. This was up from 61st in 2010 and 92nd in 2009.
